This updated serial to USB connector converts TTL serial levels to USB and offers a great serial option for the BrainStem, CMUCam2+ and other products needing conversion of TTL to USB. Driver support for this device is complete across Windows, Mac OS X (including both Intel and PPC), Linux and many other operating systems.

More Details:

This connector conforms to the Acroname Serial Interface Standard allowing it to be used with several different devices. The TTL side is also 3.3V tolerant if you are using lower voltage circuits than 5V. Power for the interface connector circuitry is taken from the USB bus.

Two LEDs on the adapter help troubleshoot connections between a host computer and a device. The right side LED indicates when a successful connection to a host computer via a USB cable is active. The left LED indicates when a device is powered up to help identify whether the device is turned on.

The drivers can be downloaded for Windows and MacOS X in the Acroname Download Center under the "Drivers" section. Linux kernels starting with 2.4.X have driver support built in.

Additional drivers can be found at FTDI's virtual COM port driver page at: http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm

Dimensions

All dimensions are in inches.

Additional Notes

The bottom of the adapter has a jumper pad (J5) that bridges VBUS power from the USB connection to peripheral devices. Be very careful that external device current demands are kept very low. It is recommended to not exceed over 100mA of current draw when using this option.

Carefully solder a bridging wire across between the two rectangular pads of J5. This will supply power from the USB VBUS line.
