Automating Device Prep for Bulk Shipments

Preparing devices for shipment is more than boxing them up. Automated Workflow Example

In a refurbishing lab or IT facility, a streamlined process looks like this:

1. Connect devices to USBHub3c.
2. Check battery state using OS tools (ADB, Configurator, MDM) and PD Logger.
3. Discharge / fast charge /  trickle-charge until SoC is ~30%.
4. Provisioning:
   1. (Apple only) Enter DFU mode with USBHub3c, then wipe/restore via Configurator.
   2. Other platforms: use platform-specific management tools. if necessary, use USBHub3c’s host switching and port controls to establish sequential 1:1 connections to serially reset devices.
5. Record results with PD Logger logs or processed summaries.
6. Approve shipment.

Apple-Specific: DFU Restore

DFU restore is the most efficient way to wipe data and reinstall the OS on Apple devices. USBHub3c can force multiple devices into DFU mode programmatically, while Apple Configurator handles the restore. This eliminates complicated key presses and allows one host Mac to restore multiple target Apple devices.
