BUILT FOR ROBOTIC INTELLIGENCE

The Hokuyo UST-20LX LiDAR sensor is built for robotic intelligence.

It weighs a mere 130g, making it the smallest of its kind and well-suited for airborne devices like drones and aerial vehicles. The sensor is also suited for ground vehicles, as it’s built with a fast response time (25msec) and wide detection angle (270º) to perform well in fast-moving environments. In fact, even airborne robotic devices can detect the size, position, and moving direction of oncoming obstacles with the UST-20LX.

Equipped with an Ethernet interface, it can obtain high-speed, accurate measurement data in a 270° field of view up to 20 meters. Due to its low power consumption, this scanner is suitable for battery-operated platforms.

All necessary wiring/cabling is included.  Please refer to the technical documentation below for wiring instructions.  Note: Reversing the power polarity will damage the sensor!

EXTERNAL DIMENSIONS

If a need arises to adjust this sensor's network settings (such as the IP address), Hokuyo recommends using the URG Benri software tool. Please refer to Hokuyo's Technical Documentation linked in the Downloads tab

This sensor uses a laser source to scan 270° field of view. Positions of objects in the range are calculated with step angle and distance. Sensor outputs these data through communication channel.

Applications

The Hokuyo UST-20LX LiDAR sensor is an obstacle-detecting device that is low power, accurate, and small. With a fast speed, it uses an Ethernet interface to get measurement data up to 20 meters in a 270° field of view. The sensor is used in different settings, and here are more details on each of them.

Use Cases

Autonomous Vehicles: The Hokuyo UST-20LX LiDAR is a perfect fit for autonomous vehicles, as it has low power consumption, a fast response time (25 msec), and a wide detection angle (270º). It can accurately detect the size, position, and moving direction of oncoming obstacles, enabling self-driving cars to make quick decisions to avoid collisions. As such, it is an essential component of any autonomous car.

Drone/UAV Navigation: As the lightest LiDAR sensor on the market (weighing only 130g), the Hokuyo UST-20LX LiDAR is well-suited to airborne devices like drones and UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles).

Coupled with its high speed and accuracy, this scanner allows drones to map their environments and easily navigate obstacles. It can also be used for advanced applications such as 3D mapping or surveillance in hostile environments.

Industrial Applications: The LiDAR sensor can be used for various industrial applications such as material handling and packaging, distribution and warehousing, automotive manufacturing, aerospace engineering, etc.

Its ability to scan vast areas quickly and accurately at short distances can help pick objects from conveyor belts or automate warehouse operations efficiently. Additionally, it can provide data on production processes in automotive assembly lines or assist astronauts in performing maintenance tasks during space missions.

Robotics: The Hokuyo UST-20LX LiDAR is an ideal choice for robotics applications due to its small size and weight combined with its fast response time (25 msec) and wide detection angle (270º).

This enables robots to react quickly when faced with dynamic environments while being able to precisely identify objects’ size, position & moving direction without consuming too much energy.

It is also used in applications ranging from robot navigation & obstacle avoidance to object tracking & recognition in automated factories or warehouses for greater efficiency & safety.
